MANAGING BUSINESS IN THE IT-DRIVEN ECONOMY

A key for the wise best describes a modern entrepreneurial tool. In today’s global economy, every decision impacts the longevity of the business, and every decision taking must have basis in solid information. Such is the importance of information technology (IT) to an enterprise.
Women entrepreneurs, and male employees of women-owned enterprises and officials of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), recently attended a training program on Information Technology and the Enterprise, organized by WINNER (Women into the Network for Entrepreneurial Reinforcement)-Nepal in coordination with the Women Entrepreneurship Development Committee of FNCCI and the Enterprise Development Network of Nepal.
The program had for its keynote speaker and principal guest, Ms. Bhawani Rana, newly elected chairperson of WEDC-FNCCI. Resource persons included Mr. Anish Shrestha, chief executive officer of Knowledge Synergy, a leading Nepalese IT solutions company, and Mr. Pawan Krishna Shrestha, lead and project manager of HWB Nepal Pvt. Ltd., a Dutch multinational IT company.
Mr. Anish Shrestha discussed the importance of IT in strengthening the competitive position of business in the marketplace and its role in institutionalizing system approach to effective and efficient management, from planning through organizing to result measurement and control. On the other hand, Mr. Pawan Krishna Shrestha presented scenarios of how an enterprise can fully exploit the potentials of the internet to consolidate its strength in order to rise equal to the global competition. He gave examples of how common business problems can be addressed with IT solutions to achieve cost efficiency in company operations. By citing his personal experience with the internet, he shattered the myth about the internet as unchartered territory for business, which holds back many from using the internet as fastest and cheapest tool of business today.
Women entrepreneurs in attendance at the training program include those from the jewelry, processed foods, garments and fashion accessories, arts and crafts, houseware and décor as well as services sectors.
